Stone Mountain
Photos from the epic Stone Mountain State Park backpacking trip on the Widow's Creek Trail near the Blueridge Parkway with Mac Hylant in January, 2005. It was very cold with temperatures in the low 20's and wind speeds to 25 mph.

I had forgotten all about this image until it popped up on Facebook today as my friend and colleague Brian Colligan's profile photo. This was taken a few years back for a Halloween story for the newspaper. Happy Halloween and thanks for sitting for this one, Brian!
Here's a pic I snapped of my brother Kevin on the beach at Emerald Isle, NC. It was a rainy day, but a rainy day at the beach is better than not being at the beach at all. Good visit and good food!
A quick iPhone pic of PeeDee the Pirate while shooting the ECU/UCF game today in Greenville. ECU pulled it off. Good to see all the photogs at the game that I haven't seen in what seems like forever. Good game. The rain stayed away until the very last part. yea...
Here's a shot from the dance floor during the reunion in Owensboro. After it was over, several of us stayed up until 4 a.m. rehashing old memories. A great time in Kentucky - a beautiful state. Until next time...
It's travel time again and I'm putting on the driving gloves for a trip home to Kentucky. I'll be attending my 25th-year high school reunion where I hope to see many of my fellow Panthers of the Daviess County High School class of 1984. Of course I won't forget to indulge in some Moonlite BBQ and I'll probably pass by Gabe's Tower several times (it's in pretty sad shape, these days) while I'm out and about. Click here for the Moto Blog, or click on the image above to follow the adventure.
My friend Mick Jeffries from Kentucky and his brother Chris have set out on an arduous, cross-country journey in an Airstream loaded with cases of Ale-8 One soft drinks, a ukulele and an assortment of laptops and techno gear for a trip of a lifetime. They are going to be a part of Burning Man 2009. I will just let you click on that link because it would take this whole page to describe what Burning Man is, exactly. Burning Man takes place in Black Rock City, Nevada. At any rate, they have just begun the trip and found themselves in Missouri after driving most of the night from Owensboro, Ky. I will be following them on the journey and I thought I'd pass it along to you. Mick is Tweeting (see @mrtoastey feed at right) and Facebooking and blogging along the way and has already hit his first snag. You can follow his blog, Mingle Freely, to keep up. This should be a great adventure. I am jealous.
During an assignment at the beach today my reporter colleague Kathryn and I lucked out and scored a ride on the back of a four-wheeler with a lifeguard who took us from Atlantic Beach to Fort Macon to find some surfers. Today was a red flag day so they weren't letting anyone in the water more than knee deep, except for experienced surfers.
The Carolina Skies Astronomy Club will host a Public Stargaze at the Bradford Creek Soccer Complex in Greenville on September 12, 2009 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
